Winning works of art by "Women’s View – 2015" exhibitors

“Artwork that exemplifies your personal views of the world.”

That’s what women artists, who live in San Mateo County or are employed by the County of San Mateo, were asked to consider when submitting their work to "Women’s View – 2015,” the 11th Annual San Mateo County Women’s Art Show.

The show is currently on view through April 29, 2015, at the Caldwell and Community Galleries, located on the first and lower floor levels of 400 County Center in Redwood City. The galleries are open to the public during normal business hours, typically Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The works of art were judged by curatorial associate Marja Van Der Loo of the San Jose Museum of Art. The judging is officially the American System of Judging, same as what is used at the San Mateo County Fair where pieces are judged in relation to one another and by the standard median set by the overall entries.

At the upcoming March 31, 2015, San Mateo County Board of Supervisors meeting, the winning artists will be presented commendations.

The $100 awardees are:

Linda Barsotti, "Expiration date 2," archival digital print

Carol S. Aaron, "Beauty In Breakdown," encaustic w/image transfer & oil stick

Edna Acri, "Convergence," mixed media

Honorable mentions go to:

Julie Brookman, "untitled water series," Encaustic on plywood

Elyse Dunnahoo, "Repose," oil on board

Cheryl Strong, "Soul Journey," Silver gelatin print

"Women’s View – 2015” is co-sponsored by the San Mateo County Arts Commission and the Commission on the Status of Women in recognition of the designation of March as Women’s History Month.
