Early this morning at approximately 3:20am, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred in the North Bay. The epicenter was near American Canyon in Napa County. It seems no damage has been reported in San Mateo County, however the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services is monitoring the situation. In the mean time, here is a link to some helpful information from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) about everything from why Bay Area earthquakes occur to what you can do to prepare yourself and your family in the event one happens where you live.
