The Project Development Unit (PDU) is organized under the San Mateo County Manager's Office and is comprised of approximately ten employees consisting of accountants, project managers, strategists, technicians, and support staff. PDU provides construction services for all new ground-up capital construction projects for the County of San Mateo properties.
The Project Development Unit (PDU) pursues excellence by delivering buildings and other County infrastructure that are functional, aesthetically appropriate, cost-effective, sustainable, inspiring, and compatible with the County of San Mateo mission and policies.
The PDU strives to embody the following core values in every project and every interaction with our clients, partners, and all members of the County we serve.
Excellence – We pursue excellence in all we do; good is never good enough, and “no” is never the right answer. Embracing excellence leads us to challenge ourselves to execute flawlessly and to consistently deliver the highest quality projects to our clients. Our projects must meet or exceed customer needs and expectations. Buildings, building systems, and infrastructure function properly and are aesthetically appropriate. The County is better positioned to attract residents, businesses, and tourists due to the excellent spaces and environments we create.
Integrity – Our work must comply with building codes and other applicable requirements. We conduct our business in accordance with the highest standards of professional behavior and ethics. We are transparent, honest and ethical in all our interactions with employees, clients, consumers, vendors and the public. Our words and actions engender trust because we deliver on commitments.
Accountability – At the core of accountability is reliability and personal responsibility; therefore, we value the ability of our staff and organization to honor our commitments. We will also take responsibility for our work and make what is wrong, right, to the greatest extent possible. Accountability involves a process of seeing it, owning it, solving it, and doing it, and requires a level of ownership that includes making, keeping, and answering for all commitments.
Stewardship – We understand our projects are funded by taxes, therefore, carefully managing the funds from the County of San Mateo taxpayers drives every decision we make and guides every action we take. We routinely deliver projects on time and within budget; we make every effort to minimize schedule and cost overruns.
